People fill the streets; in the small corner cafés, guests are back at their tables, sipping sweet, fresh, fruity-red sparkling drinks. Gelaterias and bakeries open their doors. The scent of freshly baked almond pastries and cantuccini moves through the alleys, blending with the warm, sun-soaked wood of the shutters that have been holding heat all morning. The grey stretch of winter has been left behind, a sense of ease returns — summer is not far off.
